A commitment to excellence in teaching is at the
heart of our mission at Treasure Equestrian Center.
Our lesson program offers a friendly, supportive
atmosphere in which students are free to progress entirely at their
own pace. We strive to maintain fun relaxation amidst the challenges
of learning to ride correctly. In the first stages, students learn
how to be calm, focused leaders of their equine partners. The
emphasis is on balance, relaxation, and the body awareness/control
that allows riders to move with the horse in harmony. With the
basics properly instilled, riders are equipped to influence the
horse’s movement in a positive way. When all of the various pieces
of the puzzle are in place, riding feels like a dance - an almost
magical intermingling of discipline and joy!
Instruction and the training of horses at
Treasure takes place along a number of avenues, including dressage,
western pleasure, reining and jumping. We offer year-round programs
with outstanding clinicians in a variety of fields who are at the
peak of their professional careers. These guest clinicians come from
all over the US and abroad to share their skills with us.
Because we do not narrow our focus to only one
discipline, we benefit from the opportunity to learn from diversity.
There are many different branches on the tree of equine excellence!
On a somewhat technical note which may be of
interest to those with considerable background, we are proud to
announce that our educational philosophy draws from innovations in
the field of biomechanics. This field offers scientific study of how
horses use their bodies when they move. Not designed by nature to
carry humans on their backs, horses actually have to learn how to
carry this weight (and carry out requested tasks) comfortably,
freely, and in a manner that will not be likely to lead to injury or
lameness down the road. Across all of the disciplines, we teach
based on the philosophy that the single most important goal is to
encourage and enable riders to elicit correct movement from their
horses.
